A Christmas fishing tale

“Twas the night before Christmas –
Throughout Sitka Sound
Not a creature stirred anywhere on the fish grounds….”

Writer Will Swagel and illustrator Colin Herforth have teamed up for a delightful and fishy remake of the classic poem “The Night Before Christmas.”

The “Bight” version takes place on Christmas Eve in a quiet cove off the Gulf of Alaska, when much to his surprise, the skipper of the F/V Navidad is roused by a commotion on the water outside. And instead of Alaska reindeer, the skiff is powered by a killer whale, salmon, herring and gumboot.

As many know, Captain Joe of the F/V St Jude began his fishing career in Southeast Alaska. The watercolor illustrations relay the mood of the region.  And the book is great fun for children and adults alike – and all who relish Alaska wilderness and fishing in the great Pacific Northwest.

The book is available on Amazon.
