Exports of canned seafood, including albacore, continue to climb for Spain.  Canned tuna is the leading export and Most of Spain’s seafood is shipped to the European Union.

Spanish officials also expressed “concern” … “with respect to agreements between the EU and third countries,” reports Fish Info & Services at FIS.com. In particular, he insisted that the interim economic partnership agreement between the EU and Papua New Guinea seriously jeopardizes some 25,000 direct jobs and up to 54,000 direct jobs in Europe.

Pacific albacore is certainly more sustainable than Atlantic blue-fin tuna, but consumers are increasingly aware – and yearn to buy local!
