The benefits of eating fish are hardly new. A 1917 book called Illustrated World describes “A New Way to Catch Sea Chickens” in a chapter on helpful hints for practical people:
“A new trolling device, on which from twenty to fifty albacore may be caught at one time, is in general use by fishermen near San Diego, California …. Since the government has urged that Americans eat more fish and less meat, fisheries in all parts of the country have been called upon to supply the demand. Albacore command a good price as they are fast becoming popular.”
The entry also refers to the albacore nickname – sea chickens.
